Sri Sadguru Shirdi Sai Baba |
Now its time for me to talk about Sadguru that inspired me the most - Shirdi Sai Baba. Shirdi Baba lived 100 years ago. No one knows about his birth. He is neither Hindu nor Muslim, but he was regarded by his Hindu and Muslim devotees as a saint. Sai Baba's real name is still unknown. The name "Sai" given by a local temple priest called Mahalsapati to Sai Baba when the priest greeted him with the words 'Ya Sai!', meaning 'Welcome Sai!'. Sai means divine. Baba means father. Sai Baba is a divine father for all.
Sai Baba arrived at the village of Shirdi in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, India, when he was about 16 years old. He spend most of the time to meditate under a neem tree. Sai Baba presence attracted by villagers but some considered him as mad. Baba left shirdi for few years and returned to shirdi permanently at age of around 20. At first Baba lived under neem tree for few years. Then he was eventually persuaded to take up residence in an old and dilapidated mosque. Baba healed many of his devotees using sacred ash called udhi that gained from sacred fire which is referred as dhuni. Baba delivered spiritual teaching to his visitors. Miracles performed by Baba make his visitors believed him as avatar of god. Baba always uttered "Allah Malik" which means God is Owner.
Sabka Malik Ek |
Sai Baba lived in a mosque, was buried in a Hindu temple. He practised Hindu and Muslim rituals, and taught using words and figures that drew from both traditions. One of his well known epigrams says of God: "Sabka Malik Ek" ("One God governs all"). His teachings combined elements of Hinduism and Islam and tried to achieve communal harmony between these religions. Sai Baba remains as very popular saint and is worshiped by around the world.
Sai Baba Mahasamadhi |
Sai Baba took Mahasamadhi (Die) on October 15, 1918 at 2.30pm. He
died on the lap of one of his devotees with hardly any belongings, and
was buried in the "Buty Wada" according to his wish. Later a mandir was
built there known as the "Samadhi Mandir". Before Sai Baba took Maha
Samadhi, with his own hands he had given Laxmibai Shinde 9 Silver Coins
as a token for her nine fold path Bhakti & Seva.
